PIKACHU ILLUSTRATOR AUTO CGC 9
This Pokémon Pikachu Illustrator is signed by none other than Yuichi Akabane.
Akabane was the editor at CoroCoro Comic and one of the key coordinators of the 1997 Pokémon Card Game Illustration Contest, which gave birth to the Pikachu Illustrator card.
Akabane was involved in selecting winning entries and may have had a role in overseeing the printing of the trophy cards.
The Pikachu Illustrator is one the rarest and most iconic Pokémon cards in existence. Released in 1998, it is estimated that only 39 copies were distributed, with a fewer than 20 copies confirmed to still exist.
This Pikachu Illustrator was originally awarded as a prize for winners of the 1997 and 1998 CoroCoro Comic Illustration Contests in Japan. These contests invited fans to submit their own Pokémon artwork. The winners received this unique card as a commemorative prize, not intended for commercial sale or competitive play.
